"If we are victorious in one more battle with the Romans, we shall be utterly ruined"
“Pyrrhic Victory” is an MMA documentary delving into the challenges faced by professional MMA fighters, both within the ring and in their personal lives. Reflecting its title (Pyrrhic victory: a triumph attained at a great cost, derived from the Greek emperor King Pyrrhus), the film extensively focuses on the sacrifices made by MMA fighters to succeed in the fighting industry. The team behind “Pyrrhic Victory” aimed to create a movie that resonates with both enthusiasts and mainstream audiences, capturing the intense struggles and sacrifices within the world of professional MMA. Inline with this, Rubbish Films desires the same for the identity of Pyrrhic Victory.
Rubbish Films aimed to shape their film’s branding to reach a wider audience, extending beyond the scope of solely MMA enthusiasts. This was achieved by creating an engaging identity based on symbolism and cinematic imagery, intended to be easily understood by all.
The first step involved crafting a captivating key artwork for the film’s cover and posters. A photograph of one of the fighters was edited and recolored to exude a more cinematic essence. To convey the film’s core message of victory through sacrifice, an illustrated crown and arrows were integrated. The pivotal symbolic feature centered on arrows piercing the fighter’s back, symbolizing the endurance of carrying one’s losses and pain.
The primary color choice for “Pyrrhic Victory” is a striking blood red, reflecting the intense nature of MMA and imparting a serious tone to the film’s identity. The title type for “Pyrrhic Victory” was designed to be bold and direct, featuring a dash within the ‘O’ of Victory, symbolizing the Greek representation of death and loss. The combination of these elements results in a compelling and enigmatic identity that resonates effectively with mainstream audiences.
The glory of success in this world would be the ultimate triumph or “A Pyrrhic Victory”
